Nurses... Do you like your job?

What do you like/dislike about it? Do you feel like it is a good job to have with a family?

I've been an RN for 13 years, and I do like my job.
I enjoy the sense of accomplishment at the end of a day, knowing that my patients got the care they needed and that they are that much closer to returning to their normal life (or remain comfortable and dignified as they approach death). I enjoy helping patients and their families understand what's happening and why.
The worst part about nursing is the struggle you go through to gain the respect of your colleagues. Clinicals and new graduate jobs can be very difficult, but if you hold your head up and persevere for the right reasons, you will make it. I do feel like it's a good job to have with a family, because work schedules can be very flexible. Most managers will bend over backwards to help find a schedule that will work for you. I work 2 12 hour shifts per week (.6)and get 5 days a week off. I also get full benefits. Hope this helps.
