Any advice for a CNA going to a job fair on Tuesday?

I have been working as a CNA since Dec. and have been certified since Nov. I'm 23 and the job I have now at a nursing home is the only job in health care I have ever had. I found out about a job fair that is being held Tues. at a hospital in my area. It is a large hospital system. They employ about 7,600 people. I have already put in 5 applications with no luck. They only want CNAs that have experience. I hoping that 9 months will be enough and this job fair will be my chance to get in.

Does anyone have any advice on going to a job fair? I don't have a resume. Should I make and bring one? I also don't have any professional looking clothes. Should I buy some Monday? Certainly they don't expect a CNA, who makes $8.90/hr, to be dressing too nice. I have never been to a job fair either. What should I expect? Should I arrive early? What kinds of things will happen?

I think anything over 6 months is sufficient experience for a hospital. Some require 12 months, but they are the minority. Definitely bring a resume. A cover letter stating why you want to work for them would also be good. When you are at the job fair, appear confident and offer a handshake as you approach them. Practice possible interview questions.

I would still wear nice clothing, even if it is for a CNA position. They want to see that you are taking the position seriously. I applied for a CNA job, and didn't have any nice clothing. I picked up a black skirt that hit right below the knee from Goodwill (originally from the Gap, still w/ tags on!) and paired it with a white button-up shirt I already had. This was all I could afford, but I was glad I took the time to go buy something because I made a good impression.

I think that 9 months experience should be an adequate amount of time. Yes yo should prepare a resume and a cover letter stating your interest in working for the hospital. An objective attention getter would be something like "I would like to be given the chance to better the skills training and knowledge that I have". As far as clothing find something nice to wear a pair of slacks and a blouse or check at your local Family Dollar Store or Wal Mart about purchasing a nice set of scrubs they are fairly reasonable there.
Arrive on time no need to be to early. They will probably let you know what positions are available at the hospital.

Wish you the Best of Luck
