I ended up, after one day, declining the probation officer job.?

I am pursuing other avenues. I would have had to visit 50 offenders per month at their home. Who isn't to say I wouldn't get shot etc. Plus the pay was only $35,000 per year. I really like probation but I doubt I would ever see my home again. It is just not worth it. Anyone agree? I am taking the job as the nurse recruiter.....much safer. I am so disappointed about the probation officer job but I never realized how depressing it is....it only took me one day...and this was ever before I attended the academy in Jan.

No, it was too negative a job. At least being a cop you deal with good and bad people. Plus, probation officers are WAY TOO UNDERRATED.

Look at it this way, at least you will be dealing with people who don't mind seeing you.

well lets see,. you were going to work about 22 days a month,.....and had to see about 50 offenders, at 20 minutes a person you could have done that and still had time left over,.....$35,000 dollars per year, was about 17.50 per hour,.......based on a 40 hour work week, i am sure there were also medical benefits with that,.......have a good life with your new job,.....

Anything within the Corrections field is not for everyone. I dont know what you personally expected the job to be like, but I am glad for your sake that you got out when you realized it just wasnt for you. By the way, in Northern Ohio, the average case load of the P.O. is running about 150 now. Good luck to you in your new line of work.
