Is there REALLY a ton of jobs in Nursing?

I keep hearing nursing shortage and baby boomers Retiring.
Is this true or just HYPE?

No.....not a ton....MILLIONS!! In every state there are literally thousands of vacant nursing jobs. Nurses are in suck high demand, and always will be. There will never be a time when people won't get sick, and need to be hospitalized, or need a regular check up, etc.

If your thinking nursing, your thinking guaranteed job security anywhere you go. You just have to ask yourself some tough questions, like: do i want to be a nurse for the $$ or b/c I like the help sick people. Can I deal with morbidity and mortality on a regular basis, etc.

Good Luck!

Read the Classified Ads in your local paper. There will be tons of nursing jobs. It's not just hype. Those of us who came after the Baby Boom are a pretty small generation compared to the one before us, and they are getting older. On top of that, the generation after us is bigger than we are. All these people will need health care in a big way.

PLENTY of jobs for nurses in Australia, apparently our government is doing back flips to get them :)

Yes, you can almost write your own ticket salery wise.

Most definitely not hype. There is such a shortage for nurses and the pay is only going to get better. Nursing is definitely a very good career choice... I'm currently going to school to be an RN and hopefully get my BSN if God permits : )

It's true but not all nursing jobs are good jobs.

It depends on where you live, and it depends on the type of nursing job you are trying to get.

I live in the midwest, and in my state the shortage hasn't really hit as bad as some other areas.

In the next 10 years however, demands will increase nationwide, and yes, it is primarily because of the huge population of aging adults that are going to require more medical care. Expect there to be shortages especially in nursing homes and hospitals.
