Does anyone hate their job as a nurse's aide? |
Tonight is hopefully my last night as a nurse's aide at a nursing home. I started out loving my job, but somewhere along the way I started hating it!! I hate the way there's never enough people scheduled, I hate how certain people have their call light on every 5 minutes, I hate getting told to do one thing by one nurse and getting yelled at for it by the next nurse, I hate the smells and I hate the back breaking labor!! The only thing I like is the residents!!! I know it takes a special person to be an aide, but I feel like I'm not that person anymore! Does anybody else have nightmares about work and dread going in every day?? Yeah forgot to mention that it's the most disgusting job you could ever imagine besides the constant smell of raunchy poop, the things we do sometimes would turn your stomach! Well...I am a registered nurse, and I can identify with everything you have described. I have certainly done my share of the back-breaking work you described,,,many nurses have , at one point or another..it is not a job that is done strictly by aide's! It's ALWAYS all about the patients, whether we are nurse's aides or RN's or Doctor's. You sound like you will make a WONDERFUL nurse, if that is what you ultimately choose. Best of luck in your future!! Report It yes.i think many people will hate their job as..... I'd hate my job as a nurse, you have to wipe butts all day I used to work in a nursing home years ago and it was exactly as you described. The one thing i really hated was that the aides did way more work than the nurses (as they sat on there asses) and did not get paid crap. But every job i have ever had i hated at one point and time. Yes some ppl might hate it but as i always say and my mother laugh at it "look on da bright side" ur r helping ppl and dat is a good thing. Every job has its bad things and good things, you are really focusing on all the bad. On your next job focus on all the good you are doing and just put aside the bad and compartmental it in your mind, you will never be happy otherwise . That is what makes you a mature, responsible adult over an immature one. I work in a Residential Home for the Elderly and it`s a bit easier than a nursing home. I wouldn`t want to work in a nursing home or a residence with all dementia/Alzheimer's residents. If you want to continue in a caring profession I would suggest you approach a hospital and try for a healthcare assistant job. There will be more scope for you to find a field you would be interested in. I have worked as nurse's aide at a nursing home and I agree with your comments. Staff were always calling in sick, especially on weekends. I used to dread going in because we were working short-staffed most shifts. yeah, it's a hard road to walk, and totally unjust! I don't understand how RN and CNA's get paid like twice as much (OR MORE) as an Aide, yet Aide's have so much of the grunt work to do. I wonder why they don't have an Aide's union? I mean, they have Grocery worker's unions, so why not Nurses Aides? You guys should definately be getting compensated better for what you do. |
