Thanks a lot.

I am a nurse manager, and even though there is a major nursing shortage I am very selective in my hiring. I do not just hire a person because they have RN behind their name.

Tips for interviews are common sense. Dress business formal. You are now a professional and should look the part.
Cover any tattoos and remove all piercing except one pair of earrings. Wear subtle makeup and no perfume.
Avoid low-cut shirts and tight or very short skirts. You want your future employer to realize you will fit in on the unit.

Be honest when asked about how you have dealt with difficult co-workers. Always mention you like to handle minor conflicts independently, but would not hesitate to manage report the issues to a supervisor if you are unable to resolve it.

You are probably going to be asked why you became a nurse. Try to have a good answer to this one.
You may also be asked about your short term and long-term career goals. Realize the manager interviewing you is looking for a long-term employee.

Never ask about sign on bonus or pay on the first interview.
If you are being considered for a position the manager will let you know the salary ranges. It is OK to ask about bonuses after a job offer has been made.

If you are applying for a specialty area, be aware that you may not be qualified to work in those areas( ER, critical care, OR) You employer will likely suggest you work in a med-surg area for 12-18 months prior to training in a specialty area. Please take that suggestions. Your employer will remember this and you will be promoted at the right time.
Overall, the hospital is looking for competent, caring and trustworthy staff to work for them. If you relax and realize you have something to offer the hospital you will do fine.

I hope this helps and welcome to the field of nursing

Just relax when you go to the interview. Since you're in nursing, you've pretty much got the job b4 the interview.
