Where are my job options as a newly qualified UK nurse?? Am I left with working abroad? Where will take me?

I am a general nursing student in my third year due to qualify in september 2007. I am stuck for what to do? My hometown of sheffield is apparently a blackspot for nursing jobs so i'm highly unlikely to get a job here. I've looked elsewhere but I am considering now working abroad. How would i go about working in places like austrailia, NZ, saudi, dubai, america? Do these places take on newly qualifieds with no post grad experience?? Please help i'm at such a loss of what to do...

First, make sure you graduate. Then make sure you are board registered with the UK Nursing Board. As a RN, you can try looking for RN positions in the UK, if you desire to stay in the UK. (By the way, it's hard to believe it's difficult to find a job for a RN anywhere especially in the UK. I'm a registered physiotherapist and there are plenty of job opportunities in the UK).

Back on track, for the US, you will need to contact the Commission for Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (www.cgfns.org). You have to apply through this organization to have your UK nursing credential evaluated and get approval to take the nursing certification and licensure exam (NCLEX). Once you passed, you can apply to any state in the USA for your RN license and you'll be on your way. You will definitely find the job you want in what ever discipline you want. The pay for RNs in the USA is great. Definitely more than US$25 per hour in rural areas, and up to US$40 per hour in cities depending on your specialty and additional qualifications.

Similarly, for Aussie and NZ, you'll need to apply to their respective Nursing Registration Boards. Process is quite similar to the US one.

For middle eastern countries, once you are a registered nurse in the UK, you are qualified to work.

http://www.nsna.org/ try to click on where it says 'job opportunities' I also have some messengers if you wanna chat im an american would be glad to try and help ya out!

if not i would try to continue googling the selective countries you want to go to for jobs i.e. uk jobs, usa jobs,

or states or specific locations even to narrow your search..hope that helps..

The whole graduate employment overseas thing is really confusing.

I am in Australia and at universities everywhere here, there are advertisements for nurses to go to the UK as we are told that there is a big shortage of nurses there.

Then last year I went to the UK (just on holiday) and you guys are being told the same thing about us. HUH! It seems like we are on some kind of exchange program, the purpose of which is unknown!
