Is nursing a satisfying job?..just wondering..?

i just wanted to know..

I am an LPN and I love my job. I love helping people and just hearing them say thank you or hearing it in their voice how much they appreciate you. It gives me so much satisfaction knowing that I am helping someone everyday.

I don't know who will agree with this but I kind of think that being a nurse is going to help me get to heaven or get in good with God, maybe it sounds stupid but I am helping other people here on earth and doing good things for others everyday, I gotta get some points for that? Don't you think. I figure in a way I am helping mankind better themselves by giving encouragement and being there for people.

Depends on who you ask. I say it is definitely satisfying. I have a job where I feel like I am contributing to a greater good and not just pushing paper across a desk all day. I form bonds with my patients and have had many of them go out of their way to send my notes of gratitude for the work I do, which makes me feel really good. It's a bonus that I make a decent wage and have flexible work schedules and that there is endless opportunity for career advancement.

But there are nurses who go into nursing thinking it will be different than what it is, they get burnt out from working too much, working in areas of high stress like ICUs, etc., the negativity of other people affects them and they get crabby and complain all the time. Those are the people who need to take a vacation or get out of nursing altogether, because when you don't love what you do, it shows in the care you give your patients.
