What does a community psychiatric nurse do?

I am in the process of being referred to one and I'd quite like to know a bit more about what they would do for me. If anyone has one at the moment I'd be interested to know their experiences.

Hi.

I've been under the MHT ( mental health team ) for quite some time now and i have had the same CPN since i was 16 ( im 21 now )

Theres lots they can do for you and it is actualy a good person to have help you when needed.

They tend to come visit you at home regulary ( mine comes weekly ) just to see how your doing and make sure that your health is ok and if it isnt then they can get you help that you may need pretty quick, as they work around all kinds of proffesionals.
If you need someone to talk to about anything that might be bothering you or anything you might be going through, then talk to him-her, there the best person to assess levels of support you need with your problems and can add them to your care plans.

Also when you have meetings and reviews, they usualy attend them and can talk on your behalf if you dont want to go yourself and they ll come back to you and tell you whats been said and stuff.

Theres so much they can do for you though, varies from mental health to finding you stuff to do in your free time if you want, and at the same time, staying on a supportive but proffesional level.

Mine has done loads for me. Attended meetings with me, gave me the outcomes of them. Referred me to the right people like psychologists and psychiatrists bearing in mind the kind of people i can easily get on with. She's sorted out prescriptions for medications and been there for me when i've needed inpatient help.

Good luck with the referal and i hope your CPN helps you the most that he or she can.

Take care x

Thanks 4 top answer :) Good luck x Report It

saw 1 years ago, they mainly talk, ask questions and listen, if you find it easier, write things down, something i found worked for me when i couldnt verbalise things

We had one visit us to talk about memory loss. She was very pleasant and very helpfull but you must involve them 100%. Good luck

I have just been refered to a CPN, and I have found mine fantastic. They support you, help you with cognitive therapy, someone to bleet too, will refer you on if needed. That sort of thing. They are great.

She/He is a person who is a professional who helps talk w/ you and helps properly medicate you. Also helps set you up with programs that are avaliable in your community based on your mental health disability , and a physicratist.

Hello
I have been seeing my cpn for a few years now and she helps me far more than my G P or phychiatrist. They are very good i've no complaints with them, but c p n s male or female are hands on specialists.
wish you luck
