Prevent scarring from piercing?

I recently came to the personal decision to take out my facial piercing. With the combination reasons of having a baby and realizing the unattractiveness of the piercing, I decided it was the right choice. I have had this piercing for 4 years now. It is the one positioned to look like a beauty mark on the upper lip below nostril. I would like to know the best steps to healing it without excessive scarring.

I have purchased Neosporin and Mederma. Neosprin for the healing and closing process to prevent bacterial problems and to heal faster. Mederma for the residual scarring which in inevitable.

Now that I am researching this it seems as though I need to keep ointment off of it while healing so it can "breath". Does this seem correct or should I continue applying Neosporin daily? Maybe nightly? Any nurses online?

I just don't want a reminder of my later teenage years, I have plenty of tatoos to remind me daily......

Try A & D ointment. It's the ointment they put on new tattoos to prevent scarring when the tattoo peals. IT should work for you as well.

As far as I know, you shouldn't need to put anything on it. It will simply close up on its own, and you shouldn't have any problems with infection.

My brother has removed plenty of his facial piercings and you can't usually really notice it much.
