My newborn hardly ever burps..?

I've tried and tried while breastfeeding to burp my baby after switching breasts doesnt work at all..so now when my baby falls asleep after done nursing i don't even try and burp him..or he wil wake up..then wont to start the process all over again .. is this ok? not burping him since he's alseep? He his gaining weight just fine and will be 1 month old in 3 days

you need to burp him stop feeding and burp before switching sides this will cause an acid build up burp him

Just keep trying. Some babies, especially if breastfed just dont get enough air TO burp.

*lol* Some breastfed babies swallow almost no air. ALL breastfed babies swallow less air than bottlefed babies.

I never burped mine if he was sleeping, if was uncomfortable he'd wake up!

You need to take some extra time and find out if he is a "delayed" burper. If he goes right back to feeding, apparently he has plenty of room for milk and doesn't need to burp at the time. When he needs to stop and burp, he will stop himself. If he finishes feeding before burping, more than likely you will hear the burp come later after a nap. Good luck!

My daughter was the same. I couldn't get even the tiniest little burp out of her. I just put her down to sleep, and the gas would work its way out about an hour later.
As he gets older it will be easier to get the gas up, but don't worry if you can't. It'll work its way out one end or the other.
Certainly don't wake him up to do it! It's not that important!!

I breastfed my daughter and found that she hardly ever needed to burp only if she was upset before she fed. I think that you have to burp bottle fed babies more because they swallow air from the bottle. Where as when you breast feed there is little to no air intake.I don't think you have to worry about it but if you have any concerns as a new mommy you should be able able to talk to you pediatrician.

You're Lucky. My baby burps and farts so much I am surprised he is not floating away!

When my daughter was a baby she never burped. He is fine. But if he gets fussy try burping.

If your baby is happy and content and not suffering from wind. Dont worry about burping him. Try after switching breasts but unless he is colicky, and fussing due to wind pain. I would let him sleep peacefully.
Burping is important for some babies, but some babies just dont need it. Follow your own instinct and be guided by your baby. If he is happy and content, then you are doing good.
I have had 5 babies and some needed burping, some did not. Just do whatever makes your baby happy. Sounds to me like you are doing just that. Dont listen to well meaning busy bodies who are telling you you MUST burp your baby.

Thats fine... breastfed babies burp much much less than bottle-fed ones, sometimes not at all. As long as he's not complaining from gas you've got no worries!

they say breastfed babies don't need to be burped as often as formula fed babies do. Since he doesnt have to burp, i think he's okay to be layed down without it, just offer some mylicon drops after each feeding ( this won't wake him up ) just so if he does have gas, it's esaier passed. Also do alot of tummy time, personally my son burped like a champ on his stomach!!!

Just let him sleep..he will let you know if he has gas...a lot of breastfed babies dont have to burp becuase they dont get any air..if he is always cryign and stuff then he might have a hard time burping and you might have to get the gas drops.
