Why do doctors from the Philippines want to become nurses, aside from the obvious financial reasons? |
Is the medical profession still prestigious? Employement as a doctor in the US is very hard because the doctor from the Philippines will have to undergo an expensive and tedious training before being employed in the US unlike a nurse where the process for employment is easy and not costly. Thus, Filipino doctors still study nursing just to be employed in America even when sacrificing their professions in exchange for money. Yeah, it's still prestigious, but the fact is, the way of life in the Philippines is deteriorating. Too much politicking, graft & corruption, poverty, traffic, you name it. Ya....financial is only part of it....but the main part of it. doctors from the Philippines doesn't mind to practice nursing primarily for financial reason and work abroad, as they not getting lucrative income on their country yes Possibly they have a desire to help people. Actually the reason for this is that to be a licensed medical doctor overseas you still need to take the board exams there which means months of review which can be quite costly if you cannot work there and have to spend on board and lodging. It is far easier for them to go back to school to study nursing and get a way higher pay as a nurse overseas than as a doctor locally. |
