How can I trust this nurse who is extremely overweight?

I don't have a problem with overweight people, but when their job is helping ME with my health, how can I trust that? If they were in pretty much any other profession, it wouldn't matter. But, if they cannot handle their own health, why should they be trusted to handle mine?

I didn't say I wanted them to be SKINNY. Normal weight would be totally cool - I said this nurse is EXTREMELY overweight.

good point. I don't want a bankrupt accountant handling my taxes either.

for some reason, a lot of caregivers neglect themselves.

If they put their information into practice or not, nurses ususally are taught the rights and wrongs of health. I see your point but was she/he trying to handle your weight? Usually there would be a comment about "I know how you feel i'm no good at dieting either" as this would make their job a bit easier but if it is about smoking and they are a non-smoker then they can obvoiously comment on how you should quit.

ur bring up a good point and a fat nurse really shouldnt be giving any advice on health

You can't and they shouldn't. Most health practitioners are merely medicine dispensers anyway. If you want good health, rest in knowing that no one cares more about your health than you. Learn all you can about diet, nutrition, exercise, healthy supplements, and you will seldom need a medical "professional". I became diabetic about four years ago and have learned more about diabetes than any nurse and most doctors. It ain't that hard, either.

As far as this "hormone imbalance" nonsense goes... it's far more likely that the hormone imbalance was caused by poor diet and lack of exercise, rather than the excess weight being caused by hormones. Good grief.... you don't gain weight from hormones, you gain weight from eating to much unhealthy food and/or lack of exercise. When are people going to quit making excuses and fess up to the truth?

And furthermore, how on earth can you trust health care professionals who clearly can't even take care of their own health? Hmmmm? And don't tell me fat people are healthy... I know better. Wouldn't this be kinda like hiring a lawyer with outstanding warrants and liens pending against him? Really!

Just so you know, a lot of people just aren't skinny. Period. Due to genetics, they will always be a certain size/shape no matter how hard they try to change it. Maybe she's just comfortable being her size. As long as she's not a dietician or a personal trainer I don't think her size should matter whatsoever concerning her job as a health care professional. She could be one hell of a nurse!

Because she is a professional and has taken an oath to her profession. You have to trust some. Her weight has nothing to do with her medical knowledge, it just means that she isn't careful about her own weight. Please keep in mind that all overweight people are unhealthy.

So, you are saying that because she is overweight she isn't a good nurse? Maybe there are non obvious reasons for her to be overweight, such as a hormone imbalance. This can cause women to gain weight and make it extremely difficult (if not impossible) to lose weight. Judge by her abilities and demeanor, not her appearance.

Mr Peachy : Your comments on the hormone imbalance was just ignorant. Look up and research polycystic overy disease. It is an ovarian problem that is hormonal and can cause weight gain and make it near impossible to lose it.
Also, some thyroid problems also cause weight gain. Actually many endocrine problems can. So, unless you actually know what you are spouting off about, try clamping it shut and stop judging people for something you have no freaking idea about!
Oh and another thing, although many overweight people are unhealthy some are fine. I have a spinal problem I was born with and polycystic overy disease but other than that my Dr says I am very healthy. I am very active, have been in the health care field most of my life (18+ yrs), breed horses (which happen to be ALOT of physical work, 17+ yrs) and I raise dogs. I am extremely active and happen to be overweight. And.... I eat MUCH healthier than my fiance and most of my friends. Where they are happy to pig out on fast food all the time and all kinds of sweets I love fish and chicken and veggies. So, explain that.....

this is the question i ponder all the time. i think of most nurses as being female and i am guessing this is a female you mean.
so, i guess this is because they spend so much time looking after others that they neglect themselves like someone else said before. but maybe this is a sign of their dedication...it depends on the person though.
i actually think the worst nurses (female) are the young, pretty and fit ones who are full of energy and are more interested in gossiping and flirting with the male nurses or doctors than actually looking after the patients...especially if they've been to a very high ranked university that concentrates courses including nursing into being very theoretical and academic and ladida...
it also depends on how old this nurse is. and how overweight 'extremely overweight' is.
it ALSO depends on the personality of the nurse and how connected they are mentally.
i think that you really need to look beyond people's own shortcomings and trust that although they may not seem to look after themselves, they are absolutely dedicated to looking after other people.
my aunt is a nurse, yes she's overweight, smokes, has a bad diet, gets in an immature mood, isn't married, blah blah blah...
but she saved a nursing home from being shut down...she's been a director of nursing and nursing itself successfully in the places she's been.
so...i think you need to just take a step back and actually observe who is responsible for YOU and who isn't doing the job.
my guess is that this nurse is completely reliable.

Just because she is overweight doesn't mean that she can't take care of her own health and certainly does not mean that she doesn't know how to do her job.
Many times when people are overweight it's actually because of things that they cannot control such as medication or hereditary (yes things like that are hereditary). Besides, how do you know that she isn't working on bringing her weight down? You don't
So what I'm saying is, unless you have any proof that she is incompetent, you should trust her, and just leave the judgement out of it.

Hi,
If this nurse is "extremely overweight" like you say, she may have a medical condition! It might run in the genes, and it might not be her fault.

She is a nurse because she has trained to do all sorts of things, health and safety procedures etc etc so she knows EXACTLY what she is doing!

I am not trying to be rude but her weight is nothing to do with you, none of your business really! You should be bothered about your weight and your health rather than hers, although i guess it as a right to be a bit cautious.

The point of the matter is, that this nurse, knows what she is doing and is completely qualified to do her job!

Give her a break, and like I said, she may have a medical condition stopping her from losing weight!!

Hope all goes well!!
Lotsa Love!!,,
