Why Are Spinsters Looked Down Upon? |
Okay back in the 1900s to 1940 if a woman was a nurse, teacher or whatever she was not looked down upon if she was unmarried. Now, today if you are pretty, and have a profession and choose to remain a spinster, everyone judges you or makes assumptions, why? I actually think that unmarried women (hate the term spinster - sounds awful) are so much more common nowdays and people are now quite use to seeing women having a full life without having to have a wedding ring on their finger. because of there closed minded nature thats why..... define everyone. I think even back then people did look down on-or feel 'sorry' for spinsters. Because you are not doing what society thinks you should do, which is marry and raise a family Many people look down on everybody, but many do this because they think everybody should suffer equally. I think people made assumptions back then as well. I'm guessing it happens because the single woman isn't doing what she's "supposed" to do. I have always been single, and I get told frequently I need to lower my standards. What would be the point of that? Why marry someone I don't really love? My theory is all the married people want everyone else to either be as happy as they are or as miserable. |
