Should a doctor "always" marry another doctor?

I know doctors "usually" marry other doctors, or nurses because they share the same work related interests, but don't you think they should break out of that same old pattern? I mean, wouldn't life be more interesting marrying someone with other/varied/completely different work interests? Wouldn't they be a more well rounded person if they married someone from another profession, learning about other professions? Hey, they might learn about the rest of the world instead of just medicine. Not to mention, they would be getting away from work related problems/stress by not sharing the same work problems/issues at home or socially. But the majority of them seem to fall into that same pattern (it's true). Is it because it is just "easier" finding a spouse at work rather than taking some extra time to look beyond the hospital? I don't get it.

doctors and doctors are actually a bad mix......doctors and nurses are good....doctors and a stay at home are good....

Where did you get that idea? None of the doctors I know are married to other doctors or nurses.

It is never a good idea to marry someone of the same profession because then all you will talk about is work which will get very old.

im gonna be a doctor in a couple of years and i can honestly say that as long as i love the guy and he understood the hours i wouldnt mind what his profession was. i mean 2 doctors...what would you talk about?? "what did you do today hun?" "same as you darling"???? how dull!!!

Well they shouldn't because in most families with two doctors, depending on both of their profession, it's hard to maintain a happy balance of having kids and spending time with the family. While one parent is at work doing surgery the other parent might be on call, which leaves to kids to grow up with out spending time with their parents but with maybe a nanny or a different family member.

You must be young yet and you have just taking the common out of common seance.

its same as cops marrys cops and lawyers marrys lawyers so i guess docters will marry women docters and interns marry nurse's i guess a judge marries judges

It is difficult to find anybody outside your area if you are a doctor because there is no time to look... because you create your little word and everything takes place in this little world!
I think it is normal because most of them are met in the University or while they are doing their placements in hospitals!
If you were a doctor, you would know why!
And it is not matter of 'should' ... if it happens, it happens!

I believe is more of the work schedule. They work at a miniuim of 12 hours a day!! They spend alot of time with the same people!! Because some one shares the same profession does not mean that they both have the same instrests. It doesn't mean that they are coming together with someone that has a different expereince and outlook on life.

I think that was defiantly more popular in the 80's-90's for a doctor to marry a nurse not so much anymore, most doctors just marry successful people and actually i know more doctors that are married to lawyers than anybody else. Also a lot of them marry while in med school so yeah they marry whoever they meet in school, but most of us marry the people we meet in college too so its just natural that they get married to those that are going to med school with them because they see each other so much. Anyway i never heard of a doctor just marrying another doctor b/c they need to marry a doctor. If your in love than u shoul dmarry whoever u love not there occupation.

I work with doctors everyday and I'll tell you the happiest ones are the ones whom have chosen NOT to marry other doctors. They tell me this straight up ALL the time! The fact remains that doctors choose the life of medicine which always comes first, which may explain why some doctors marry doctors. However, if the wife understands she will indeed be "second fiddle" to her husband's profession then all can be good and fine.

doctors+doctors= clinic in da house

It makes the pain of break up less economically painful when you can do a 50-50 split rather than having one partner shred the other in the courts. Court costs are less too.
