Why are some medical staffers so anal?

You would think that people would be glad that there are still people wanting to help out in the medical field. Yes, I chose it but I see why the field is so shorted?

How should a nurse or doctor be? I am a future health care employee. I am not indicating to what level I am in this profession. I am almost thinking about another career but I have come so far.

No, I am not looking for a pat on the back for my efforts but can't people learn some manners and how to treat others?
In other words, I know these are people's lives but who died and left medical personnel in charge like they are God?

I've been in the medical field for 25 years, and I've worked in many different hospitals, and one thing I've learned is that the attitudes of the staff really does depend on the mission statement and management of the institution. Some hospitals will simply not put up with poor bedside manner or co-worker dissention. And size doesn't matter. I worked for 10 years in a small community hospital, where you would automatically think that the stress level would be lower...but that's where the attitude was the worst. I've also worked in Level 1 trauma centers where every single staffer worked together with complete respect for each other...and there was absolutely no tolerance for 'attitude'...even from department chiefs. They were WAY too busy for ego to get much of a foothold.

It really does have to do with administration, and what they will and won't put up with from their employees...because in the long run...lack of respect between co-workers will bring an institution down as quickly as financial woes would. The small community hospital I spoke of was just recently 'bought' by the hospital I currently work for...years of shoddy management and complacent/corrupt administration finally took it's toll.

I totally agree with you, as a person on the lower half of the totem pole in the hospital this happens often to my department. In my seven years in the admitting department at a hospital I have been yelled at, hung up on, threatened etc. from the higher up care givers. .
