Nurses out there sick of "profits instead of patients" contact me. Let's reverse the demoralization of nsg.

Are you tired of having no autonomy? There are many nurses who have left the profession because they were not allowed to care and advocate for their patients - the mere reason they entered the profession. We have stayed silent and have taken it too long! I believe nurses who care for the patients should have a greater say what happens in the workplace - all the "rules and regulations" regarding patient care are being made by non-clinical people with big letters after their name and no experience in clinical care. It's time the public knew the danger they were in because corporations don't listen to nurses regarding safety issues, staff/patient ratios, and on and on!! Let's finally get the recogniztion we so deserve. They couldn't get along without us. We are the bedside caretakers who carry out the doctors orders and are utimately responsible for the patient's health. LET'S FINALLY TAKE CREDIT FOR IT!!!!!!

Boy, you sound like me. I work in Geri-Phsyc. These patients can no longer be in restraints. I'm talking about very debilitating diseases of the mind. the state said it was against their rights. However, if they fall out of the geri chair or any other place, then, and I quote, they have a right to fall. Isn't that the most idiotic statement you ever heard??? My patients don't know any better and restraints are for their benefit. The state of Mass also frowns upon chemical restraints when they are really out of control, It is allowed, but boy, they give us a hard time. I asked one state worker if she would like to take my place for a month and see for herself how hard it is for us. She wouldn't last a day. You're right, none of these idiots work with patients. They sit in their plush offices with their plush chairs and make rules for us that don't make sense. Furthermore, nurses today are more like secretaries. Paper work and more paper work. I was told not to do patient care because I didn't get my paper work done on time. I asked what was more important, patients or paper work. I worked in a nsg home on a 40 bed unit with only 2 cnas if I was lucky. Well I continued to help the aides, punch out at the end of my shift, then do the lousy paper work. Rules were made to be broken, so let's break them

well, i am a nursing student in New Orleans...so you can just imagine the issues here "post katrina." (I honestly don't know what it was like before, so i can't really compare.) The nursing shortage is unreal! We learn one thing in school, and find out the "real" way to do it when we get into the hospital. The few nurses they do have there have no time for good patient care, real teaching, or anything else because the staff/patient ratio is way off! I could not believe what they make patients pay for in some hospitals! What about the people who have no insurance and have to pay an arm and a leg for a toothbrush, not to mention all the tests they have to run! (for profit, no less) I don't know if i am on the same page as you, but i do know that my school is scaring the heck out of all of us about documentation and procedures and stuff to prevent us from getting sued. I am almost scarred to practice nursing!
