Why are women 'type-casted' into specific professions? |
It seems that in today's society - women (like myself) are geared to fullfill 'nurturing' professions just as in teaching or nursing professions for example or even to stay settle down and have a few kids...but, when none of these choices are an option - what do you do? What I mean is that I am a women in an IT profession - I feel like I am being type-casted by my company in doing the 'secretarial' type duties than being able to broaden my skilll set and advance in my field. I am a college graduate and have the desire to learn - but feel that I am not taken serious - 'cause I am a woman. (It seems to be a boys club at my job - really frustrating!!) Any suggestions what I should do to branch out to doing other things within my profession? Well being a women you can go to any profession. I have known many successful women in Business and in Medical profession. The only thing is that young generation of women are gearing more towards easy jobs. I was so surprised to see 99% of the liberal art major were women. And they didn't want to teach at aUniversity level, they wante dto be Elementary school teacher. |
