To people who work in the healthcare profession (CNA's and Nurses)::?

Does it pain you to see how much medication the elderly are given?? I took care of a woman who lived to be 107 and her only medication was a tylenol here and there to help her with pain. I see all these old people taking a crap load of painkillers and other medicine that I would NEVER shove down my grandmother's throat. Most of them are people who are not alert so what's the point? Is it a get rich scheme for the pharacy?

I know a lot of these pills aren't pain related, and that's my point. All pills have side effets so you need more pills to take care of those side effects, and then those new pills have side effects and the cycle continues.

There's two main factors:

* Pharmaceutical companies want to make money; and
* People want a pill for every problem, instead of a real solution or just living with it.

Which is bad enough, but it would be their own business if they weren't forcing the rest of us to pay for it.

i'd wait until u get old to answer that; You, and myself, both dont know what kind of pain they're feeling, and a lot of there meds arent really pain related

Yes it does, and one of the main reasons it happens is the pressure placed by the pharmaceutical companies on those who prescribe.
