Tattoos and piercings in nursing?

Hello, I am going into the nursing profession, however I also like tattoos and piercings and I am looking into getting some of both. However, I'm not sure if they are accepted in that career...for example, I would like to get a tattoo on my forearm, but I don't want to interfere with my career chances.

I would also like to get an industrial piercing in my ear and I want to know how that would interfere or if I would have to remove it for work and interviews.

Thank you in advance!

I am a nurse and I know that all hospital and facilities have different rules when it comes to tatoos and piercings. At the hospital that I work at you are allowed to have piercings in your ears but you can only have studs. Tatoos are allowed also but they have to be covered. So if you dont mind wearing long sleves then I say go for it. If you cant cover tatoos with clothing you have to put a band-aid over it which personally I think is more distracting!

Personally I don't care about peircing's or tattoo's, as long as you r god nurse. That said I wouldn't recommened it due to the looking down on you by managers and patients. Some ealthcare facilities have rules about peircings. I have tatts, but covered most of the time.

We will never ever, try as we may, get rid of the prejudices against certain things.. The Industrial Piecing in the ear would probaly be considered a hazard since it could get caught on Medical instruments. I am not sure that you can even wear Pierce earings if you are a Nurse You m ay want to check a few Temp services and ask those questions.
a lot of hiring persons do not take you as being professional if you have a Tatoo, I think these things may be a hinderance to your career. And you may be passed up for promotions.

I can tell you now that it WILL interfere with your career choices.

ALL of the hospitals around here have a no visable tatoo, no jewelry other than one set of earrings and a wedding band.

If the tatoo cannot be covered, you will not be offered a job. They DO NOT make long-sleeved scrubs, so unless you want to wear a long sleeve t-shirt under a scrub top on 95 degree weather, I would re-think the location.

Industrial-type piercings are also not permitted.

Work to have people notice the job that you do...not notice you for altered appearances.

I am a CNA and have 3 visible tattoos on my lower forearm and I haven't had a problem getting a job also I didn't wear short sleeves b/c it was hurt. So if they want to hire you they wont judge you by your tattoos!!
