Nurses...is nursing a good profession to go into?

Will I actually HELP people, or be treated like a number and belittled by the higher ups?

It's a good profession if you like that sort of stuff. Being a nurse does really make a difference: you help people when they are in need, you ease their pain, you provide a meaningful service to society in general.

However, the pay is not spectacular, the environment can be tough and the hours can be long. Make you choice...

America needs nurses. We need them so badly that we've been importing them from other countries. but hey, if you're already here, we oculd use more of you.

In every profession, there's going to be someone above you who's gonna treat you like dirt. In medicine, it could be an attending physician, it could be a hospital administrator, it could be another nurse. In the working world, get used to jerks.

But at the end of the day, you are valuable beyond words. You save lives. You heal bodies. And hey, you can earn up to $90k a year depending on your level of education and experience. Starting wages are $50 and up. Not bad for two to eight years of schooling!

So yes, I would recommend you give nursing a shot. It's hard work, but it's rewarding.

Yes, nursing is a good profession, but it takes a lot of work to get there, and just as much or more to stay there.

Nursing itself is a wonderful and rewarding profession. Nurses are the people that actually deliver the healthcare and teaching. You will not be disappointed with your profession.
As for being treated like a number or being belittled by the higher ups, it is just like any other profession. It all depends upon where you work. The majority of facilities that I have worked for have not treated me unfairly. I am not a nurse mind you, I'm a paramedic but I do work very closely with the nurses in the emergency department and other facilities and my husband is a registered nurse. He says now that he couldnt imagine being more satisfied in any other profession.
I'm glad you are seriously considering nursing as a profession. This country needs nurses. A good nurse is, in my opinion, much more important than the physician. Unless you are unhappy with the work itself, nursing is a VERY good career choice.

If you can handle vomit, blood and giving shots.. Then go for it.. oh yeah, nurses are in dire need here in the USA by the way.

its a great profession, u get to make a difference in someone's life.u only will be treated accordn to how u allow someone to treat u. NURSES are needed thru out the world. every country is importing them.
