I think Registered Nursing (RN) is a legitimate profession. Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) isn't really a profession in my book. They're really nothing more then glorified nurse aides when you think about it. They can't start or remove IVs, they can't give shots, they can't do anything that an RN can. They can give bed baths, change bedding, take blood pressure--basically what Nurse Aides can do. I don't think they're even allowed to give narcotic pills. They can give you tylenol or any prescriptions that you may be taking, but as for starting PCA pumps or anything like that, I don't believe they're allowed to do that. Why even bother?

My grandmother was a Registered Nurse Anesthetist (what they had before anesthesiologists came along) and I have the UTmost respect for RNs. They break their backs serving people, are overworked, underpaid and don't get credit where credit is due.

As as American, nursing is a profession that takes years of school and vigorous testing. It's not an easy field to get into. I have the utmost respect for nurses.

nursing what? a baby? like a mother who nurses? or a hospital type nurse who gets paid to tend to others..which being paid to do something by definition is perfessional...

nurses dont get enough credit

Nursing is a profession, even if you're just a nurse's aide. I live in Oklahoma, and there is a nursing shortage. You break your back at work lifting people, you are always on your feet, and just when you think you can sit down, a call light comes on. You try to help people, and sometimes they hate you. Worse still, you do have many call-ins to add to the shortage, and you work twice as hard and many times pull doubleshifts to cover for lazy workers.
