What is the importance of psychology in the nursing profession? |
What is the importance of psychology in the nursing profession? You need to know how to connect psychologically with your patients, and understand what they are emotionally going through- to be compassionate. I think it is important to know how, typically, a patient is going to or could react in particular situations. If you know ahead of time how they will react, or typically react, you have a better knowledge of how to deal with them when the time comes. Psycology is important in any and all relations you have with another human being it helps you understand why they do , say, and react to every situation. One of my favorite sayings when asked a question about any other human is "IF you look at it from psycological point of veiw" then the answers become very clear good luck I use my psychology learning frequently when dealing with people. I think that as a nurse, a thorough understanding of motivation as well as mental pathology (abnormal psych) is an important tool to have to treat patients who are encountering difficulties would be a useful thing. It is important in dealing with patients. Try to "manipulate" (i dont really like this word for this context but i could not think of a better one) them into making your job and their treatment easier and more smooth. I think being able to understand the emotional trauma that comes along with a physical illness is very important for a nurse. Nurses are the people who spend the most time with the patient and has to be aware of every aspect of that patients health to give them the best possible care. Nursing takes a lot of patience, understanding and empathy. They do a lot more than just administer medications and take your vital signs. |
