How is sociology related to the nursing profession?

can you give me some specific examples or situations?

Nurses should interact with so many persons especially with patients. They must know how to handle them, how to impress them and how to get along with them. Above all they must reduce race and religious prejudice to follow their professional ethics. For that understanding culture, groups, community , etc will be helpful. By way of understanding sick role, illness behavior, labeling theory etc. they could acquire the skill of understanding the behavior of people . For example they could understand why some people exaggerate even the mild symptoms while some people take light of even severe symptoms. they can even understand what are the social factors which influence an individuals decision of consulting a physician or what are the constrains faced by a patient before approaching a medical professional. Sociological knowledge plays a major role in shaping the attitude of nurses in their profession.

because you have to be a "people person" and persuade that drunken person to calm down because you want to help him.
Distract that child who wants to kick you & all you want to do is jab him with that needle. So you say to him have you ever met( a cartoon charater) & what is his favourite.

Many social workers work in hospitals. Say a child is born handicapped. The social worker provides the parents with different social agencies to use as resources. Or if a child is born to parents with no income they help the parents apply for WIC and other forms of welfare to provide for the child.
