Why would the nursing profession prefer a wellness-oriented focus on health(as opposed to a disease-oriented)? |
Why would the nursing profession prefer a wellness-oriented focus on health(as opposed to a disease-oriented)? as a nurse, you treat the effects of the disease on the patient, doctors treat the actual disease. For example, if a patient comes in with a fever and has positive blood cultures, the doctor writes an order for antibiotics-hence to treat the disease, it's the nurses job to not only carry those orders out but to find other ways to help make the patient feel comfortable and to bring down the fever (cool compresses, etc.) Patient education is a very important aspect of a nurse's job and preventative care and information can prevent many unnecessary illnesses and trips to the doctors! hope this helps... Focusing on wellness generally means focusing on the prevention of disease, which is more cost effective and better for society in general than trying to cure a disease later. |
