Actual Nanny State: NYC Bans Baby Bottles

When I first read this story, I said, "This is absurd. This is just getting out of hand, and nobody's stopping it. Everybody is going along with it. We're losing New York," and then I thought, "Well maybe I don't know enough about this, because I've not been a parent," but, you know, they've banned smoking in New York City, and they've banned trans-fats, and now they're going to ban the baby bottle. They're going to mandate breast-feeding by 2020. I'm not kidding. "Free formula samples and formula promotional materials are now banned from gift bags given to new mothers at the 11 hospitals run by the city's Health and Hospitals Corp. Instead, new mothers will get a tote bag stuffed with disposable nursing pads, a mini-cooler for breast-milk bottles, and pint-sized T-shirts for the babies that proudly declare 'I eat at mom's.' The move comes as World Breast Feeding Week is set to begin tomorrow. And today, city health officials will announce a campaign to promote breast-feeding instead of using formula."

You know, I remember when I was a kid, I had dreams that I was Dolly Parton's baby and she did put me on formula. My first reaction is, "It's none of your damn business! If somebody wants to bottle feed the baby, get out of their lives!" But I don't know enough about the medical aspect. We have this story from Great Britain and parents not mentioned in a story about how the government is responsible for "youth behavior." British kids are running out of control, drinking, drugging, binging, all these things. They need more government programs to fix it. Not once in the story will you read the word "parents." Now you have the City of New York telling people you can't smoke, you can't eat trans-fat, and now you can't bottle feed your baby. Do you think it's a good idea, Mr. Snerdley? I know I'm going to get a sexist answer to this. I shouldn't even ask you. It's healthier for the children? Breast milk is healthier for the children. Well, I've heard that, and that's one of the reasons that I pulled that. But, do we have any known cases of babies dying having been fed formula? Do we know this? Like the woman in Maryland that aborted her own fetuses and buried them, was that because of formula? Well, no, they weren't even born yet so it's not even a factor.

They're not telling women they CAN'T bottle feed. All they're doing is encouraging breastfeeding. Which they should - because they're a HOSPITAL and it's healthier for the baby. So you don't get free formula anymore - so what? Buy your own formula if you want it!
They can't ban it outright. Some women can't breastfeed for health reasons, and some just can't produce enough for their baby. And when my son had jaundice when he was born, the hospital TOLD me not to breastfeed him for a couple of days. I'm sure they'll still keep some formula around the hospital for special cases like that. After all, you're right. It is the parents' choice how they feed their baby, and giving them formula does not make them a bad parent. But there is nothing in the world wrong with a hospital refusing to encourage something that's not the best possible thing for the baby.

The real story is how many slut woman kill there babys there every year. For shame.

Not only this, but people call Mayor Bloomberg an independent. He won the job by running as a Republican, even though he is a big liberal.

It will not end until we get a conservative president in the White House and a majority of both houses as conservatives.

Why do you exaggerate to the point of telling falsehoods?

They did NOT ban smoking in New York - just smoking in public places, where non-smokers are forced to breathe the disgusting stuff.

But no, they're not banning bottles either, not even close. They're banning the free samples that parents get in the hospital. And it's just in just 11 hospitals - it's a hospital policy, not a government law. Whoop-de-doo. You can still bottle feed all you want. It's a good thing, because breastfeeding is better and should be encouraged. Don't make a mountain out of a molehill.

I tried for four months to breast feed and was not able to. THis is not funny. I still cry or having to do formula.
