Does anybody know anything about iv pumps? Is anyone a nurse? |
If someone presses iv pump buttons after a nurse programs the right amount of meds, will the iv pump alarm or will it use the last request that was put in by the patient? i'm a nurse, and it depends on the brand of pump. some will adjust to new settings very easily, some beep and go back to the first settings. usually, there's some sort of button you have to press after putting new settings in, so it's not something that you can necessarily do accidentally. Depends on the type of pump you have. Most pumps have some type of "lockout" mechanism to keep the pump from being changed accidentally. This fail safe is important, especially for pumps that deliver pain meds (narcotics). The patient can press the button but if the maximum amount of med has been given, the patient is "locked out" from receiving anymore med. |
