Do you think I'm a jerk?

my bf is so smart in science and wants to pursue nursing. i support him but deep down i wish he didn't because it's soo typical for him to do nursing. i've learned to accept it but it turns out he's not getting accepted into ANY nursing programs at all bc he applied late. I tried to persuade him to major in biology which was his original major and he's already gotten accepted into that major. I want to support him in everything and anything he does but do you think it's wrong for me to want him to major in something else? He's really depressed about it bc he's so determined to be a nurse for whatever reason. What do you think he should do?

Ok I can tell you this maybe he can see this as an option to still get into nursing. Have him to apply into a LPN program and then when he finishes in a year he can enter a bridge program to get his RN credentials. For right now support him in what he does, but also encourage him to get into a CNA program so he can gain some clinical experience while applying to an LPN program. Even though he didnt get in there's always options go to the LPN program and have him apply for the next class and hopefully he'll get in. Try that and let me know how it goes.

If he really wants to be a nurse, he can get in next year. There is no reason to be depressed. Keep supporting him. Being a nurse is a good profession and he can make decent money at it. If you are wanting to get him to major in Biology in the hopes that he'll go to medical school, well that might be a problem. You've really got to want to go to medical school It is a long haul and taxing on a relationship. But if that is what he wants to do, or whatever he would want to do with the Biology degree, be there for him. And don't look down on him if he wants to be a nurse. Most men go into to ER or Critical Care nursing, and the people that do that are awesome.

Face it honey, he wants to be gay and will probably dump you in a week. Most male nurses are GAY.

Go into the biology program until he can get into the nursing program, he can accomplish many of the same courses. Just don't take a year off... It's difficult to get back up on that horse.

He should do what he wants. I think it's really cool that he wants to be a nurse, we need more nurses, and smart ones are an added bonus. He should apply again next year. He should see if he can take some courses at a community college like anatomy or something that would transfer to a nursing program. I wouldn't recommend biology if you don't want to be a biologist or aren't going to med or dental school. I'm graduating with a BS in biology in May, and it's pretty much a useless degree. You can't really do anything without a masters or PhD. I'm going to med school, so it's the only reason why I was a biology major.
