Yes there are hippies in abundance! It may be the wacky hippie capital of the US.

Its also an area full of natural beauty- rocky coastline, beaches, redwood forest. There's even a forest right next to the university.

The place does have kind of a stoner reputation, on the other hand a girl I know went there for premed and then got into Harvard for graduate school...

Beautiful surroundings if you like trees. So camping, etc. is in abundance.

Very much the hippie capital of the USA. I agree, definitely a stoner campus. It is small and if you are not into that lifestyle, not much else to do and it is remote from larger cities. The hiking and camping in the surrounding area is excellent and it is a beautiful area.

For sure hippie town, my friend goes to school up there he loves it because he can focus on school without much distraction because there isn't much to do. It is really pretty though, the people are friendly. I dont know what you can do for fun... play disc golf maybe? Thats big up there.
