What do you say in a reference letter about yourself?

I have to provide a reference letter for admissions to a nursing program. I asked a former employer to write one for me. He wants me to write it and he will sign it. I'm stuck. The things I'm writting are flattering but thats why I'm stuck. It feels weird...What if these are NOT things he would really say about me? I dont want to make him feel uncomfortable too!!!

Why don't you ask your former employer to describe what characterics he would say about you, so you can submit an honest letter of reference and then you can just format the letter yourself.

Hmmmmm..You should mainly mention traits that you know fersure, virtually everyone that u know can agree with. Then expand. Oh, also u should really humble yourself at some points by mentioning small unimportant traits that may come off a lil' offish..ya know, for ex. "Chris can be a little too __sometimes, however in essence it shows me that __feasable compliment(lLOL)__about him." I hope I helped somehow, really. I think after re-reading, you can really be sure if u've blown urself up too much lol, and remember ur friend wants u to get the job too! do underestim8 ur friendship..haha sounds corny but ya know .

It sounds like your former employer is either uncomfortable about writing a letter for you, or too lazy to do it. It sounds unethical to me - for you to write a letter, and him to sign it as his words.

When I'm asked to write a letter of recommendation, I ask the person to give me a list of their accomplishments and what they think are the best traits. But I write it myself...

I would ask someone else to write you a letter, but come up with a list of the highlights about you, to make it easier.
