What's the chance....?

So, I'm pretty much freaking out...
what's the chance that someone with a 3.1 GPA (I'm a junior, so I have some time to bring it up a little) to get accepted in to the University of Texas? What about the pre-nursing program?
I'm not top 10%, but I'm in the first quarter. I volunteer a good amount too, and I'm in a couple of different organizations, and I usually take AP and Pre-AP classes...

any answers appreciated!

you still have a pretty good chance. Get you some good recommendation letters from your teachers and influential people in the community that know of your community service work...

I think you'll be fine - just do as well as you can on your SAT/ACT.
Most state schools also have probationary acceptance as well - they may admit you under the condition that you can only take 3 classes your first semester and must get at least a 3.0 or 3.5 gpa for that first semester. then you would be admitted without condition.
But really, if you try to get your gpa up just a bit, try for 3.5 if you can - and you do a bit above average on the ACT or SAT you should have no problem getting into any state school.

Nursing programs can be a bit different - they can be VERY competitive - so that is something you will want to talk to the Uof T about.

You should talk to your guidance counselor or contact the UofT directly and ask to talk to someone about admission requirements. They will have much better answers!

Well, I don't know specifically for University of Texas, but for all universities, definitely try to bump your GPA up a bit more, to the 3.5+ range if you can. It's good to hear you volunteer already, and seeing as you want to go into nursing, you might want to change your volunteering to a hospital environment (if you aren't already). Try to engage yourself in after-school clubs/programs as well, those will beef up, and separate your academic resume when applying to various universities from the thousands of other of applicants. You really shouldn't be freaking out, as most universities look at GPA and extra-curricular activities. Hope that helps!! Best of luck!

3.1 is okay, but it is only okay. You could probably get in with it but it doesn't exactly guarantee admission. The problem with a 3.1 is that it makes one wonder why it wasn't higher. Was it a good student being lazy or a bad student getting lucky? The good news is that you have some time to concentrate on bringing it up, and all you have to do is tell yourself that you're too good for a B.
