Do I need to take this class?

I am planning on going into nursing, but can not apply to the nursing program until I have met all the pre-req's. One of the Pre-Reqs is Elementary Algebra. However on the placement exam, I placed into intermediate Algebra. Am I still required to take the Elementary Algebra?

Also, I took Psych 1A about 11 years ago. It is another class required for the Nursing program. Is there a time limit? Do I have to take the class again?

Well really I think your best bet is to check in with the nursing program you want to apply to. Perhaps they have a website, but it may also be a good idea to see if you can schedule a meeting with someone in the Admissions department of the nursing program so you can ask all the questions you have.

It seems to me that if your placement exam indicates that you are at a higher level than Elementary Algebra you probably do not have to take the Elementary class. Still, the nursing program may want you to have math class credits (instead of just a placement exam). The nursing school could give you a better indication about (1) whether you have to take a class or not and (2) if you do have to take a class, should you enroll in Elementary anyway, or take the Intermediate Algebra class.

About the Psychology class...yes, I believe many or maybe even most schools have a time limit. So you'd have to check with your target nursing school to see about their required time limit. For example, at this website from Colorado:

http://www.colorado.edu/catalog/catalog0...

They say that their time limit is 10 years.

I'm sorry I couldnt give you more specific answers, but unless we Yahoo Answerers know the nursing program you're looking at we cant give you specifics about that particular school. Once again, I'd try the website, a phone call, an email, or a personal meeting. A personal meeting may also be beneficial in that you can present yourself to the Admissions office as someone who is really eager and excited to join their program...which they love to see.

No you're not going to have to take Elementary Algebra if you go ahead and take Intermediate Algebra.

Different schools have policies about past courses received for credit towards a degree....11 years is a long time...check with the school's registrar.

Check with your advisor, if its a prerequisit you probably will have to take it, same with psych, you took it a long time ago, check if it still counts.
