What are the chances getting into a Nursing Program, I'm from Southern California?

What are the chances getting into a Nursing Program, I'm from Southern California?

Excellent, depending on your qualifications. Just about everyone in the country is looking for nurses.

Many community colleges have Liscenced Vocational Nursing (LVN) and Registered Nursing (RN) programs. Most programs have waiting lists, but there are courses you need to take in order to be eligible, so you can take those classes while you are on the waiting list, and finish about the time there's a space available.

Most require Anatomy, Physiology and Mircobiology before enrolling, Depending on your academic skills, you may have to take some basic English and Math courses as well.

If you are in Orange County, Saddleback College has a great nursing program. MiraCosta College in North San Diego county also now has a new LVN to RN program that is well regarded.

Good luck!

As long as you do well on your prerequisite courses (mainly Micro, Anatomy, Physio), it shouldn't be too hard getting into the program. The hard part is having to wait on the waiting list. Some people are waiting years to get in.

I'm from Orange County and from what I hear, among the 4 community colleges that offer the RN program (Santa Ana College, Saddleback College, Cypress College, Golden West College), there are over 1000 people waiting on the lists.

I guess to increase your chances of getting in, you can find a school that is based on a point system. The better grades you receive on your prereq's, the higher on the list you will be. This is the route I took and I ended up waiting 2 semesters to get into the program at Santa Ana College.

If you feel your grades are not strong enough, I suggest you look for a college that is based on a chronological wait list (I'm not sure where in SoCal you are, but I believe Cerritos College has this type of wait list). Unfortunately, that could take a long while (through the grapevine, I hear it can take 4-5 years) until you are finally accepted.

What many people do is take their prereq's first, get onto a waiting list, then take GE courses (if they haven't already done so) while they wait. Makes your wait more productive.

Anyway, good luck with whatever you do!
