In the Nursing program is it better to go ahead and get the BS or the Associates?

I have been told its quicker to get the Associates and you make the same money as someone who has their BS, is this true?

Most of the time, yes. As far as I know, most employers don't give more money for someone who has a BSN. You do need a BSN for some management jobs or if you want to attend grad school. The good thing about these programs is that if you get an associate's degree first, there are many bridge programs. You can get your ADN, then transfer to a university and earn your BSN. You may want to read the forums on the site below. There's a section for students.

Actually you will make a little bit less - not a lot but a little bit.

Also, if you ever want to go back and do something else - administration, nurse practitioner, etc... you will have to go back the complete the BS.

I would recommend that you go ahead and to the BS now and get it over with.

Most hospitals want nurses to have more education now, so they will hire someone with a BS over someone with just an associates. If you have a BS, you'll actually make more money than someone with an associates. But youre right the associates only takes 2 years and the BS takes 4-5 years. But the BS is more worth it, especially if you want to go on with your education and possibly get a masters one day
