At Robert Morgan what is the difference between medical assisting and the nursing program?

At Robert Morgan what is the difference between medical assisting and the nursing program?

located Miami Florida

As you have had no other answers for this question, I will try to provide some basic information. Understand that I have no personal knowledge about Robert Morgan Educational Center, but I have assisted in the educational preparation of both LPNs and medical assistants.

These are two completely different fields.

The primary focus of medical assistants is working in medical offices (though about 15% of MA graduates are employed in hospital or other healthcare settings). The main job of an MA is to help process patients through a clinic and to assist physicians, nurse practitioners and PAs in performing the tasks of examinations and office procedures. MAs also perform some testing in the office setting and may administer some treatments under the direction of the health care provider or possibly a supervising office nurse. Given the variety of information provided MA graduates also may be employed as office receptionist, and may assist in billing and as unit clerks and admitting clerks at hospitals. Also they may be certified as phlebotomist. The average starting salary for MAs in South Florida is about $9.40 an hour.

LPNs are licensed nurses and are the mid level nurse between the nursing assistant and the RN. They provide hands on nursing care, and administer medications. They will be used extensively in hospitals and are seen as the main nursing unit managers in long term nursing facilities. The educational program at Robert Morgan is 1350 hours (50 hours longer than the MA program) and is 50% clinical. The average salary iin Miami/Dade COunty for an LPN is $16.70 an hour, but may start arount $13.50 to $14.00 an hour.

Good luck with your decision.
