Where can I find current nursing research on managing chronic pain?

try some of these sites:

http://www.webmd.com/diseases_and_condit...

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/pain....

http://www.ajpmonline.com/

http://www.painedu.org/index.asp

http://www.ampainsoc.org/pub/bulletin/ja...

I would try going in to a hospital or a local doctors surgery for information, also there is nurses direct that you could call.
I would also buy a copy of nurses mags that you can buy because there will be a lot of usefull numbers in there.
good luck

Most nursing journals are available at the local public library. Also there is a service called Proquest, that allows you to search nursing journals, and medical journals, for information regarding certain topics. Use the elsevier website to focus on pain management. Also you can go to your local hospital and ask for policies and or procedures regarding pain mgmt.

Good Luck!

Nursing Journals are your best bet. Go to your library and ask them where you can get hold of some copies. Or just go online. I'm sure theres a journal out there purely on chronic pain.

Hi Sally, I have just finished my nurse training and I found the following sites really helpful:

http://www.nelh.nhs.uk/

http://www.sciencedirect.com/

http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/cgi-b...

You will need an Athens username and password to access alot of electronic databases, I was given mine when I started uni, I believe that NHS employees also have them so if you are seconded you may be able to access it this way.

There may also be a library at your local hospital, if there is it will probably have copies of popular journals. If your university has a decent library website you should also be able to access electronic journals this way. The last tip I have is try any local hospices as soem of these do training and also have well stocked libraries and are often happy for people to use them.

I hope this is helpful and wish you good luck with your training.

I use the newsletters from John Hopkins University and the Harvard Medical Journal. They're always publishing study and research results. Otherwise, your local chapter of AMA usually hosts work shops for physicians which any medical personnel can attend at a reduced cost. Some of the most valuable information I've received has come from those workshops.
