Dilemma with school and head lice.....?

my daughter since school started has contracted head lice three times. Each time there was a month or more before we saw the lice again. I have contacted the school district but they seem to offer little to no help. They are unwilling to do head checks of all of the students. The school nurse told me that she needs names of the students that I think maybe affected with the head lice. How am I suppose to know who is affected with head lice? I am not the only person going through this, I know two other parents who live close by who have complained of the same thing. How do you confront a school that is unwilling to take care of a problem? Is there any way to prevent my child from contracting head lice again?

my daughter's school had a similar problem...we put her hair in pony tails and let her wear a "du-rag"/bandana so that her hair was not exposed...if the hair is kept tight and covered the lice don't find their way in...remind her to wash her hands often, even more than usual and to not try on other people's hat, coats, shirts etc...if the school gives you a problem about covering her head just ask them if they would rather you go to the local paper and broadcast the fact they are neglecting the health of the children in the building...if she catches it again i would go public and make a lot of noise because someone is not doing their job correctly with this many outbreaks...

I would notify the school that if they are not prepared to help with this problem you will contact the health authorities and do just that if they will not co-operate

I would say that you and the other parents should get together and attend an open school board meeting to alert them of the problem.

You could also try calling your local newspaper's education reporter. Sometimes negative press will convince the school district to do something about a problem they initially refused to address.

ok......this happened to me a couple of times

1.either move school

2.use head lice shampoo or conditioner every week so it prevents it from happening

3.inform the school parent govenors about it

I would notify the school board that they need to be more strict about poor hygiene (such as not washing their hair every day - these are the people who tend to get lice more often). Your daughter is contracting it from one of these students.
