I am 45 yrs. old now, married, isn't it awkward to still go to nursing school with teenagers as my classmates?

I can understand why it could feel awkward, but NPR recently featured a blurb on a 80-something woman who graduated with a degree in "General studies" - and during History classes, the students would turn to her to ask "What was it like to be there??" =) It is becoming more common for "adults" to attend with "kids" especially with the job market changing so much.

I'm planning on going back to school when my boys are older, and yes, I'll be in the same position. My sister is doing it now, she has a nine year old. Although she gets exasperated at being in classes with people who do not take it seriously like she does, it has been a fantastic learning experience for her- introduction to a social culture she's not familiar with. Plus, it's been a confidence boost, as she's aced all her courses this year!!

I say, Good for you! for continuing to learn. There are many people out there. And look at the up side- when you graduate and become a nurse, none of your patients will "know" you just started, as they will with all those younger students!!

Going to school will always be awkward. If you are going now you should be duly proud of yourself that you are taking the initiative to go back. Throw the awkwardness out the window and embrace the fact that you have the courage to try.

I thought teenagers went to high school. And yeah, it might be awkward, but if it's something you really want to do, then don't let this stop you.

depends on how long you've been there. If you've been there for 20 years and haven't managed to get a degree, that would be awkward.
But if not, there's no shame in learning something new no matter how old you are.

when i was in college, there were several women in their 40's that went to my school along with us who were "traditional" college age. Agnes Scott has a program called "Return to College" for "older" students.
I think because you have life experience outside just school, your insight in classes may be valuable as well as advice you may be able to give outside of classes.
Good Luck with everything. It's great that you've got the opportunity finally to go back to school.

I am 33, single, and a mother of a beautiful 3 year old son. Currently attending Radiology Technician classes. I am secure and proud of myself and I hope when he is old enough he realizes it was so I could provide a better life for him. Also to let him know one is never too old to accomplish their goals and dreams in life. Life is short and you only get one, so do what you want because if you don't I promise you will regret it. I wish I would have went sooner because my father recently died and he will never get to see me accomplish my dream, but I know he was very proud of me. So do it for yourself, besides who cares what others think. Maybe you might be able to teach the teenagers a thing or two about life, you never know til you try. GOOD LUCK!!!!

I was much younger, but had my oldest while still in college. It's funny because even though I was younger, I was so annoyed by the seemingly trivial drama of their lives LOL! I was up all night with a colicky baby screaming, and they couldn't study because of a frat party. Sigh...
I don't know awkward, but it might be difficult to relate.
I think it's wonderful, my dad went to nursing school while I was a baby...congratulations on your choice!
