Can someone explain me how to turn prone a patient in the OR. I'm in nursing school, and I have to investigate

I need detailed explanation, or a place to have free internet access to patient positioning in the OR.
Thank you for your help!

Sorry Nurse. Prone means laying on the face. Supine means laying on the back.

A patient that is prone is face down in the OR. This position would be used for spinal surgery, rectal surgery etc. To turn a patient in the OR you need a team approach. You need the anethetist to hold the endotracheal tube in place, and monitor the lines as you turn the patient. Your team would log roll the patient up on their side as a unit. You would then with a lifting sheet pull them across the table into the supine position. OR you can continue hte log roll onto the turning/lift board. Then you shift the board across the OR table and they are supine.

There are many places online that are free to look at postioning of patients. Type in "surgical patient positioning" in google and there ya go.

If you are gonna be a Nurse you need to learn to search the internet all by yourself.

Good luck.

Prone means back. If you are trying to turn them on their back, you must keep them align from head to toe. Use a sheet under them and pull it towards use and then drap the sheet slightly over their body and use it to tug them onto their back slowly while keeping them align. Hard to explain. It would be best to have another person assist you.

Don't they get them into position before they knock them out?
