If you were charged of misdemenor for shop lifting will it affect getting into nursing school or getting a job

I was not arrested but had to show up in court and pay a fine.

Being charged with a crime is not the same as being convicted.

If found not guilty, then you want to do what you can to make sure any records of your arrest are updated to show the disposition of the case, otherrwise the records might look like you really guilty.

If convicted, you now have a record, although a minor one.
Any time you apply for a job, you may be asked questions that you need to be truthful on, or if they find out you untruthful, can lose the job.

It depends on the job, whether or not they are going to bother checking up on your record, or whether your crime is important to them.

Since it was shop lifting, you probably can't get any job in retail, or processing merchandise, like distribution, trucking etc..
Since it was stealing, you probably cannot get any job where there are valuables, like money or drugs, so the nursing profession is not something you can go into.

You might be able to go to nursing school.

You need to ask the authorities in your jurisdiction if you have this bad record forever, of if after 10 years of no other problems, or some time period, your record is clean again.

school - no
job - yes

Depends - were you convicted?

It will depend on the length of time between the offense and nursing schoo and employment. Make sure that you do not try to hide this when applying - especially for boards. Misdemeanors usually will not impact your ability to sit for boards, but lying on the application can (and will).

Be honest - there are many Angels of Mercy with a little tarnish on their halo.

You better stay out of trouble for a few years and maybe you can get it expunged off your record.

If it happened before you were 18 and was adjudicated in juvenile court, then probably not. Be careful though, in some instances they can dig back into your juvenile records (security clearances for government and military jobs, admittance to the Bar, etc.)

If it happened after you were 18, then yes. Most applications ask something to the effect of "Have you ever been convicted of a crime other than minor traffic violations." You'll have to say, "Yes" and your application will probably end up at the bottom of the file. You could lie and say, "No", but if they found out you could be immediately terminated/expelled for lying on your application (remember that paragraph you signed saying everything was true and accurate to the best of your knowledge?).

If I were thinking of hiring you, you could expect to do some heavy explaining to convince me that you would not steal from me as well. I doubt that it would affect nursing school unless there were too many applicants to choose from but my understanding is that nurses can't be trained fast enough to keep up with demand. A history of criminal activity has consequences that go far beyond the punnishment handed out by the judge. The good news is that you have the rest of your life to treat everyone fair and just.

It shouldn't stop you from nursing school, and once you have a nursing degree, assuming you've "gone straight" in the meantime, you should have no problem getting a nursing job, considering the shortage of nurses.
As for jobs along the way, that depends on the employer; I like to think most employers are forgiving of a single conviction.
Best wishes!

If convicted yes because it will show up on a criminal background check. See the website below for more info and use its contact info if need be.

How old are you? That may matter in your situation.

If you were a minor when it happened there will be no negative consequences.

If you were older then it will be up to the Nursing School's rules.
