I am thinking of becoming a nurse. What can I expect in nursing school? Is it challenging?

For a long time I have tried to steer people away from nursing, working in a hospital is not just patient care but putting up with a lot of organizational BS. You will be overworked, underpaid, short staffed, putting up with "premadonna" attitudes, working nights, weekends and holidays....doesn't sound like much fun, does it?

BUT Nursing can be very satisfying and rewarding in the patient care. You meet wonderful people who look to you for help and support. You are their advocate, you take care of them... you feel their pain...you feel their joy. YOU are a part of this persons life. You helped them overcome, and triumph as well as stood by their side in support, with compassion and understanding as they grieve. If this is the kind of profession you are looking for, then I highly recommend it.

PS: If you are going for your bachelors degree, your first couple of years are pre requisites. Each university is different as to how you are accepted into the college of nursing, some you have to finish your pre req's then apply, some you apply at the beginning and get a little taste of nursing thrown in with the pre req's. Your final couple of yearsafter pre req's are very intense with clinical and classroom time, the further along in the program usually means more clinical, less class. Be strong in math, bio & chem. An ability to write is also a boon. Good Luck.

Be prepare to have alot of homework but it is for a good cause. go after what you want. and don't stop. its challenging but its worth every penny. good luck.

I'm becoming a nurse as well and i heard it will be hard but worth every effort and money afterwards. Good luck!

Tip: You can google search a nursing student's blog to get a taste of what the program will be like.

Yes, I have friends who are nurses, and it is a lot of work.

to be a good nurse, you have to be very caring and compassionate. those dear, are qualities that you simply do not possess. i can tell from your posts that you are an arrogant, hateful, and prejudice person. what would happen if you had to care for an African-American person? would you treat them with the same respect as other races. i think not. try another field for the sake of everyone in your community.
