I want to go to nursing school how hard are the classes?

Just want to know what im getting into before I make the comitment!

I didn't think nursing school was too bad. It is hard to go full time because once you start clinical your days get very long. It is time consuming, there are papers (care plans) every week, you need to know every little thing about your clinical patients before you even get to their bedside. Memorization, study and discipline. Expect not to sleep much, expect stress that you never thought of, expect a very rewarding career when you graduate.

There are so many fields of nursing open to us now, you can work the floors, administration, management, insurance, legal, etc... many go on for anesthesia or nurse practitioners, there are also PhD degrees being offered by many universities.

If you are unsure if nursing is for you call a local hospitals nurse recruiter. Request to shadow a nurse. Many hospitals are offering this opportunity to prospective students because of the nursing shortage. You get to follow a nurse and see what the day to day activities are really about.

There is nothing glamorous in nursing, it can be dirty and is usually physically hard work. But at the end of the day when someone is just a little bit better than when you came in, it's all worth it.

You need good math skills and you need to have a good memory for a lot of different items all at one time...

You also need to be an early riser because your days in the hospital start at 6AM and go all day.

If you aren't dedicated and disciplined... don't even bother. Most schools of Nursing have a very strict discipline policy and, if you miss 2 or 3 days in a semester you are dropped and if you are late to class or clinical 3 times that is considered as a miss... so you need to be there EVERY day at the appointed time and be PREPARED because they don't take many excuses.

basically it's a 4-year course. in our country, what is listed below depends upon the curriculum of the school you choose. in my school, its like these:

first year, it's just general education subjects (english, math, biology, physics, anatomy, etc.)

comes 2nd year, still some gen ed subjects but with a major which the primary health care 1&2.

third year, all major subjects, 8-hour hospital duty.

fourth year, kinda the same as third year..

classes are easy applying what u learn once out of the classes is the hard part. by classes im assuming u mean the pre req college classes (a & p, chem, bio, algerbra, ect) once done with those u got to get urself into a nurseing program, find one that fits u, their not all the same. like the one person said thats where the fun begins... long hours, thinking fast, and this is when real learning begins.
on side note both me and my mom are in medical field and while talking while back we decided that couple psych classes and socialogy classes would have been very useful though they arent req.
