My friend who is in nursing school is afraid she can't get a license now because she was treated for ? |
bipolar. Can this keep her from getting her license? she says she has to include it on her application for the nursing license I think she should be fine. Tell her not to let that discourage her. Fill out the application and see what happens. She has nothing to lose. There are bipolar people out there who are docs and nurses all she has to do is show up to get her license and do a good job. I wouldnt shout from the roof tops at work that I was bipolar but by her having it doesnt make her not able to get her license. no i dont believe so more than 40 % of the population is bipolar and doesnt know it, does know or just doesnt care. No. Medical records are confidential. Unless she offers the information up, nobody will know. Also, even if she tells Everyone about her condition, it is illegal to discriminate against her for it. If she passes the test and meets all the other requirements for getting a license, then she WILL get the license. I believe if she is managing her illness there should be no reason. Unfortunately she needs to be discreet about the diagnoses. Also she needs to be brutally honest with herself. Is she able to manage the disorder and work. Nursing has soooo many options in the type of work, surroundings, and hours they work. That's a good thing! In the state of texas it may prevent her. She will have to report that she has bipolar and that she has been seen and treated by a doctor for it on a Regular basis. Then from there I think its the boards judgement as to whether she get a license or not. |
