Drug charges and getting into nursing school?

Drug charges and getting into nursing school?

Depends on the school....but this is usually how it goes.

Any felony conviction within the past ten years results in denial of admission to the nursing program.

Any felony conviction more than ten years old may be be evaluated based on the nature of the offense, length of time since the offense and any explanatory letters/materials submitted by the applicant or student.

Any misdemeanor will be evaluated based on nature of the offense, length of time since the offense, and explanatory letter/materials submitted by student.

Best bet...is to call the admissions office.

Hope that helps

If you have felony convictions on drug use, or distribution, then forget about a career in nursing.

Well, you already have a background in medicine so i say you should be ok.
But what the hell do i know.

Check with the school of nursing in your state.
My guess is that they might work with you on a misdemeanor charge but if you have a felony you can forget it.
also if you had the charges while you were underage you should be okay provided you can get them sealed.
The nursing board should be able to answer your question with in 2 mintues of hearing the story.
If they say no, you might try appealing to your congressman to see if he can pardon you.
it is a long shot but if you are already in nursing school it would be a shame that you wasted all of that money/time for nothing
so dont give up until all avenues are exhausted

Call the nursing schools. I would wonder if colleges can descriminate just because you have a drug charge (conviction) people change - don't they?

I would focus on State Schools and Community colleges.

Nope, if it was something simple OVER 5 years ago like one join, you may have a tiny chance at getting in if you show a high aptitude towards nursing.

If you had a dealing charge against you, you're done. The nursing program has to many people trying to get in, they consider all things

If you get a violation while a nurse, IE a drug charge you can lose your license.
