2) Pre term labor PT. order: Mg504 to stop contractions. Order reads: 30gm of mg504 in 1000 ml of D5W a bolus of 3gm/45min. of Mg504 has been ordered. How many ml/hr required to admin. required dose?

3) An exlampsic preg. pt. ordered Mag. Sulf 4 gm in 250 ml of 0.9% sod. chloride IV solution to infuse over 2 hrs. per iv pump. drug lit says not to exceed 3ml/min @ this solution rate strength.
A. Safe?
B. How many mg per hr is she receiving?

1) 25 ml/15 min X 60 min/1 hr = 100 ml/hr (Answer)
2) 3 gm/45 min X 60 min/1 hr = 4 gm/hr
4 gm/hr X 1000 mL/30 gm = 133.3 ml/hr (Answer)
3) 250 mL/2 hr X 2 hr/120 min = 2.083 ml/min (Answer B)
Since 2.083 ml/min is less than 3 ml/min, this solution is safe (Answer A)
