Why would a blood clot in the venous system affect perfusion in the arterial system? a blood clot in the venous system may break loose, travel to the right side of the heart, travel out the pulmonary artery, and get lodged in the smaller arterioles, preventing perfusion to that portion of the lung = pulmonary embolis because it can? Humans have a closed circulatory system. When one part of the system is blocked or constricted, the pressure is raised throughout the system. For example: Deep vein thrombosis in the legs can cause a clot to move to the lungs or into the heart. From the heart or the lungs where does the clot go? Into the arterial system. Maybe into the brain. Bad news there. |
