What is pharmacy school like? I am in nursing school. Is it a lot harder.?

what is being a pharmacist like as a career, what do they do, it does not seem nearly as stessful as being a nurse. It makes me mad they make more money and it is not a back breaking job? thanks.

Pharmacist do not make double the salary of an RN, but they probably should. The average salary for a pharmacist in the US is under $88,000 per year, according to some salary surveys. RNs with an associate degree in this city are making over $70,000 per year. Those salaries are too close when you consider one person has an associate degree and the other is a Doctor of Pharmacy having completed 4 years of pharmacy school after a bachelor's degree in pre-pharmacy.

Is the school harder, that would depend on your personal aptitudes. Chemistries, math, biology, anatomy, physiology and physics are important to pharmacists. If you think nursing school is hard you would probably think pharmacy school is hard or probably harder. There is a lot of memorization.

There are many areas where pharmacists work, so there are many different types of work they might perform. By far, most are in retail, and the day is repetitive, and involves checking and rechecking prescriptions and orders filled against the patient's information. They also counsel patients on medication and other health issues.

If you find nursing stressful, then you might find pharmacy stressful. You are usually on your feet 95% of the day, so I don't see being an RN sitting at a desk taking off orders part of the shift being more back breaking.

I have worked in both areas, and they each have their challenges, it is all in what you like to do.

I would suggest you try to shadow a pharmacist before you make a 5 to 6 year detour in education.

It's nowhere near as stressful. It's a busy job but the tasks are much easier to do and there are less of them.
Pharmacy school involves a lot of math and a LOT of chemistry. They drill every principle of chemistry into your mind like no other course.
Pharmacy school is hard, but I've seen people pass it who aren't rocket scientists.
Pharmacists make double the salary of a nurse if not more.
