Nursing School Dismissal / Applying to other nursing schools? |
During my second semester clinicals, a confused pt told the CNAs that we (the student nurses) said that they weren't caring for her. The pt had expressed that she was not being turned. In an attempt to reassure the patient, we wrote on the message board to turn the pt q2h. The CNAs told the primary nurse who took it to the DON who called our instructor into her office. BTW, the instructor is a NP. The other SN and I were wrote up and told if anything else happened, we would be asked to leave the program. On a different clinical day, the pt. I had was to have an MRI done and helped her with the forms. I'm 99.9% that I wrote down she had a pessary (the pt. was too shaky to write). I rush back to go to post conference and they take her for the MRI. My instructor, the primary nurse, and MRI tech didn't check the paperwork and the pt. said something about the pessary as they began the MRI. What can I do about these incident reports? I'm concerned about how this will look when applying... No, I did not protest the dismissal as the dean of nursing had the final say. However, it was suggested that I talk with the dean of the college itself. Everything in a student's file is brought to their attention. Unfortunately, I was 'fortunate' enough to have an instructor who would write anyone up for having performance anxiety or who she had to spend a little more time with to teach a procedure. (I was one of those students.) Thanks for the encouragement. Did you protest the dismissal? Maybe you should talk to the dean and see if there are other items in your file that led to the dismissal. Keep trying- nursing school is tough, but you've made it this far.... |
