Does this hurt my chances of getting into nursing school?

When I was in the sixth grade, I was arrested for stealing candy from a convenient store. I was arrested and my mother came to pick me up from the police station. I don't even remember my mother having to pay a bail amount or anything. I never went to court or anything, but I do remember being placed on probation for one year. During my probation, I had to write an essay about whether or not I had learned my lesson about what I had done. Besides speeding tickets (which weren't many) I have never been in trouble with the law since. I am now 30 years old, married, with two children. I am looking to get into nursing school and I was wondering if I should even report this information on the background check application.

I believe juvenile records are sealed when the child turns 18 unless the crime was a serious infraction (assault, murder, that sort of thing)---check with your state's laws to see the process of getting your juvenile record sealing.

I highly doubt something you did as a sixth grader will affect you getting in to college. I did something similar, except at Wal-Mart, and I got into a good university to be a teacher AND I ended up working at Wal-Mart 5 years later:)

Check with your local police department and see if your juvenile record has been sealed (destroyed) if it bothers you that much, or post for advice on the "Law Enforcement & Police" board under Y!A.

You were too young and immature it shouldn't matter.

i dont see how it would hurt your chances. you never went to court over the issue so you were never charged or convicted of anything so their shouldent be anything on your reccord, even if somthing did happen i would guess you would have been processed as a minor.

I would check w/ a legal specialist, but I believe juvenile records are sealed so I'm thinking you wouldn't have to even mention it. But like I said, double check first.

I think you'll be fine. I mean, it's not like it was last week, and it's not like you're trying to become a policeman. I think you should put it on the application, but make sure you specify your age at the time, and your age now. If they ask, let them know you're remorseful.
