For those who went to Nursing school? |
I'm currently working towards applying for nursing school. I have two more classes to take before I can apply. Currently I have a 4.0 in all my pre-req's and all my support classes. I feel like I'm ahead because of my grades. However, I meet so many students who have been trying to get into the program for several years ( I don't know what their grades are like...)! What was your experience? How many times did you have to apply before getting accepted? I'm nervous that I'm wasting my time and will never get in. They take 30 students a year out of 400-500 that apply. There isn't a waiting list. It's a points system. First they go on grades of your pre-req's, then your support classes (classes in the program that you can take before getting in, I've have all but 2 completed) then on your HESI score. Talk to the nursing program director. Find out what the requirements are not just classes but GPA and any other requirements that your school may have. It is very competitive getting into the program, nursing is in such high demand right now that many schools are putting together new programs and there are not enough clinical sites to go around. Anymore schools are taking the best of the best. I got in on my first application I completed all of my pre-recs, and took some classes that are only required of the nursing program that you can get permission to take. My GPA was a 3.8. It would also be a good idea to look around at other schools in and around your area do they have wait list, how long, do other programs require different classes? I hope i have been of some assistance. Good luck |
